Objective To determine the foci and duration of protein expression following virus-mediated
gene transfer to the optic nerve. Methods A cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter was linked to a
lacZ-SV40 polyA reporter gene or a humanized green fluorescent protein (hgfp) reporter
